about Peggy Cooper

Peggy Cooper is an expert with 35 years in public relations, politics, tourism, aviation, community outreach and engagement, airport planning, project management, business development, strategic planning, and critical thinking. She has a trusted reputation with high visibility and is skilled at handling both local and national protocol. Peggy has two days in San Diego permanently named in her honor by the San Diego Mayor and City Council, worked 19 years in politics including 6 years for the United States Congress and 13 years at San Diego City Hall under two prominent Council members of the Fourth Council District. 

After politics, Peggy found her passion in aviation as the Senior Communications Specialist and Lead Military Liaison for 14 1/2 years at the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority under the leadership of former President/CEO’s Thella Bowens and Kim Becker. 

In 2018, she was recognized as one of the most influential business women in San Diego, as well as for her leadership in the San Diego Business Journal. In addition, she was honored by former State Senator Joel Anderson for coordinating the naming of a three-mile stretch of Interstate 15 “Tuskegee Airmen Highway” and in 2024 honored by the San Diego Voice and Viewpoint Newspaper with the Unsung Hero Award for more than three decades of service to the San Diego community in civic, government and business philanthropy. 

Peggy served on the Board of Directors for the USS Midway Museum and is currently highly engaged with the Midway serving as Board Trustee and Vice Chair of its Community Engagement Committee. In addition, past Board Member of the San Diego County Lodging Association formerly known as the Hotel Motel Association of San Diego County. She is a Certified Public Facilitator and over her career has personally raised close to one million to support nonprofit organizations throughout the County and assisted numerous students to attend college. Now happily retired, she spends much of her time traveling abroad, enjoying the gift of a loving family and to the iconic USS Midway Museum.
